About Punjabi University PATIALA

Punjabi University was established by the Punjab Assembly under the Punjab Act No. 35 of 1961. Dr. S. Radhakrishnan, the President of India at that time, laid the foundation on June 24, 1962. He emphasized the importance of higher education institutions in nation-building. The university was founded on April 30, 1962, in Patiala with the main goal of promoting Punjabi language, art, and literature. It has now become the largest university in the state. The university’s vision is to advance Punjabi studies and language, provide education in various subjects, and promote research. Initially, the university had a small jurisdiction area with only 9 colleges, but it has grown over the years to cater to the educational needs of nine districts in Punjab. The university now offers a wide range of educational programs and research opportunities across various disciplines on its 600-acre campus.
