A: Open and Distance Learning reflects both the fact that all or most of the teaching is conducted by
someone removed in time and space from the learner, and that the mission aims to include greater
dimensions of openness and flexibility, whether in terms of access, curriculum or other elements of
structure. Contributing to social and economic development, Open and Distance Learning is fast
becoming an accepted and indispensable part of the mainstream educational systems.

A: A Directorate established by Guru Nanak Dev University, Amritsar (within its main campus)
especially for offering courses under Open and Distance Learning (ODL) mode and governing all the
rules and regulations, publicized from time to time, by Distance Education Bureau, University
Grants Commission (UGC-DEB), New Delhi.

A: Guru Nanak Dev University, Amritsar being a Category-I University has been given the privilege to
run Open & Distance Programme(s) without seeking the permissions from UGC as per UGC’s
public notification F.No. 1-8-2018 (CPP-II) dated 12th Feb, 2018 and titled “Categorization of
Universities (Only) for Grant of Graded Autonomy Regulations, 2018 ” clause 4.10:
4.10 “University may offer courses in the open and distance learning mode, without approval of the
commission, provided it satisfies all the conditions laid down under UGC (Open and Distance
Learning) and amendments from time to time.”

A: All the courses under Category-I autonomy provisions are approved by UGC, New Delhi vide UGC’s
public notification F. No. 74-2/2018 (DEB-I) dated 18/10/2018. A copy of this notification can be

A: Admissions under Open & Distance Learning usually commence mid of May every year and are made
only during July session. However, no fresh admissions are made during January session.

A: All the courses under Open & Distance Learning mode are offered in Semester System and follow
the CBES (Credit Based Evaluation System) scheme.

A: Once the admissions are over, the Directorate won’t allow any admissions even with late fee.
However, if last date for admission under ODL mode is extended by UGC, New Delhi; the same will
be applicable to Directorate of Open & Distance Learning, Guru Nanak Dev Uni versity, Amritsar

A: As per policy of Directorate of Open & Distance Learning, Guru Nanak Dev University, Amritsar; it
is mandatory for all the candidates to take up and submit their assignments before the last week of
commencement of end-term examinations during each-semester. If any candidate fails to submit
his/her assignment on time or at all, he/she will not be allowed to appear in end -term examinations.

A: Any candidate (citing personal / financial or whatsoever reason) can surrender their seat by
informing the Directorate in writing. The candidate will be refunded his applicable refund amount
after deducting University charges, as prescribed by the University from time to time, and nonrefundable charges (if any). Presently, the University charges are Rs. 2,000/-.
