Faculty of Applied Social Sciences and Humanities
The Department of Finance and Business Economics was created in 2019 by merging the two Departments, i.e., Department of Business Economics and Department of Financial Studies.
An integral part of the Faculty of Applied Social Sciences and Humanities, the Department offers two flagship MBA programmes [MBA in Business Economics and MBA in Finance], two Ph.D programmes (Phd in Business Economics and Phd in Finance) as well as three Undergraduate courses running in colleges of the University of Delhi, viz., BA(Hons) Business Economics, Bachelor of Management Sciences [BMS] and BBA in Finance and Investment Analysis [BBA(FIA)].
Founded in the year 1973, the University of Delhi’s Department of Business Economics pioneered the Masters Program in Business Economics, MBA (Business Economics) (erstwhile Masters in Business Economics). The programme combines the fundamentals of economic analysis with the practical aspects of policy and the business world. The institute is elated to announce it’s 26th rank in IIRF (Indian Institutional Ranking Framework) in the best government B-schools across India. With its illustrious history of 50 years, the Department has a very strong alumni base gleaming like stars all over the corporate skyline. The Department has also fostered strong alliances with big corporate houses and over time has retained its position as their preferred recruitment destination. The programme in Business Economics is designed to meet the growing need for an analytical and quantitative approach to problem solving in the changing corporate world by the application of the latest techniques available in the fields of Economics and Business. The Department hosts a number of events along with an Annual Convention every year during which experts from different fields speak on contemporary issues related to the economy and business.
The MBA (Finance) programme, earlier known as Master of Finance and Control, launched by the erstwhile Department of Financial Studies way back in 1987, was a foray into an uncharted territory in the Indian educational scenario. Based on the lines of MS (Finance) offered internationally, it was one of a kind niche course in finance, designed and developed to cater to the needs of the fast growing corporate world. Since its inception, the Department has been grooming financial professionals who are well – equipped to serve the dynamic Indian finance industry. Its flagship programme of MBA (Finance) (erstwhile Master of Finance and Control (MFC) and MBA (Financial Management)), is a niche course in finance designed and developed to cater to the ever – changing needs of the corporate world. The Department was recently welcomed into the CFA University Affiliation Program. Only academic institutions that embed a significant portion of the CFA Program Candidate Body of Knowledge (CBOK) including the Code of Ethics and Standards of Professional Conduct—into their curriculum are eligible to participate in the University Affiliation Program.
The Department has two Ph.D. Programs, i.e., Ph.D. in Business Economics and Ph.D. in Finance.

Faculty of Education
Department of Education
Central Institute of Education (CIE), now known also as the Department of Education of the University of Delhi, was perhaps the first major institute of professional learning and research in Education that was established since independence. The first Prime Minister of India, Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru and his first Education Minister, Maulana Abul Kalam Azad took considerable interest in CIE’s establishment in 1947 and its activities and progress in those early years. Maulana Azad visualized the function of CIE not merely to “turn out teachers who will be ‘model teachers’, but to evolve into a research centre for solving new educational problems of the country”. Maulana prophesized that CIE would grow into “a beacon light for training institutions of the country”. Over these past decades, CIE has indeed grown into a pace-setting institution in Teacher Education and Educational Research. Recognized as the Institute of Advanced Studies in Education (IASE) and having launched the Maulana Azad Centre for Elementary and Social Education (MACESE), CIE has shaped its unique philosophy, which finds reflection in its academic programmes.

Department of Chemistry
The chemistry teaching started in 1922 with three constituent colleges St. Stephens, Hindu and Ramjas. The chemistry teaching was confined to a two year course for B. Sc. degree department and the teaching up to I.Sc. Level was conducted in the constituent colleges of the University. In October 1933, the University Offices and library shifted to the Viceregal Lodge Estate and the chemistry department made an inconspicuous beginning in the Viceregal kitchen which was used for conducting the lectures and practical classes. In 1942, New laboratories and lecture rooms were constructed and visionary faculty members were invited by special efforts of illustrious Vice Chancellor, Sir Maurice Gwyer.
In June 1949, Professor TR Seshadri took over as head of the department and owing to his untiring effort, the research activities gradually increased, and the department attained formidable reputation in the international scene as one of the finest schools of chemistry. In 1963, the University Grants Commission recognized the department of chemistry as a Centre of Advanced Study for the Chemistry of Natural Products. In 1965, the department of chemistry was recognized as a Centre of Advanced Study in Chemistry.
In eighties several faculty members joined the department and the department expanded rapidly in terms of both research and teaching and a large number of small independent groups started flourishing. Various faculty members made significant contributions in computational chemistry, biopolymers, physical chemistry of polymers, organic synthesis, medicinal chemistry, apart from the structure elucidation of natural products, biotransformations, chemical communications, structure investigation of metal complexes, organometallic chemistry and analytical chemistry. After the year 2000 new group of faculty members joined the department with specialization in newer areas that included biomolecular structures, synthesis of nucleosides, medicinal chemistry, electrochemistry and material chemistry. With advent of the new era of materials and nanomaterials other young and energetic faculty members have also joined the department. With this input the department is marching forward in newer areas of research and teaching.
The department of chemistry is well known for its excellence in teaching and research. The faculty members of the department are engaged in state of the art research as well as guiding the Ph.D., M. Tech. M. Sc. and Post Doctoral Students. The department has made great strides by revising and updating the M. Sc. syllabus time and again. A thoroughly updated and revised M. Sc. syllabus has been implemented in the year 2009. In the international year of chemistry, the department started new project work in M. Sc. syllabus where students have exposure of writing the project and also develop communication skills. Advanced level optional courses are also offered at the Ph.D. levels and these courses are taught semester wise. Collaborative research programmes with many research laboratories and research institutes in Delhi and outside India are also operating very successfully with mutual benefit.
The department has distinguished itself as a centre for innovative and pioneering research in a wide range of areas in chemistry and chemistry interfacing with physical and biological sciences. Department of Arabic
The Department of Arabic is one of the oldest departments in the University dating back to 1922, the year of the inception of the University of Delhi. However, the department was not an independent till the late sixties when it got an independent entity. At first, the classes used to be held at St. Stephen College, a constituent college of the University of Delhi. To begin with, the renowned erudite personalities such as Shamsul Ulama Maulana Abdur Rahman and Maulana Saeed Ahmad Akberabadi rendered their services for the department. In the late fifties the department of Arabic with its sister departments- the Department of Persian and the Department of Urdu- was shifted to the well-known Arts Faculty Building.
The Department of Arabic thus passed through three phases. At first it was working under the umbrella of Department of Arabic, Persian and Urdu. At the second stage the Department of Urdu became independent and the Department of Arabic and Persian remained combined. Afterwards the Department of Arabic got independent in the late sixties.
Department of Buddhist Studies
The Department of Buddhist Studies was established in 1957 as follow up to the action initiated by the Government of India on the occasion of the celebration of 2500 years of Buddhism on 24 May 1956. This department, the first of its kind in India, was established with the primary objective of conducting research at the advanced level in various subjects related to Buddhist Studies. As part of this initiative, a Chair of Buddhist Studies was created. Professor P.V. Bapat, a scholar of international repute, was the first scholar to occupy this chair. Professor Bapat initially began his work of organizing the Department of Buddhist Studies under the overall supervision of the Department of Philosophy which was headed by Professor N.V. Banerjee at that time.
For the first few years, the Department had a staff strength of one professor, two research fellows, one stenographer, and an office attendant. Under Professor Bapat, University Grants Commission was approached for initiating action to provide an independent identity to the Department with its own library and more academic as well as non-academic staff. As a result of these efforts, the University Grants Commission provided one reader, three lecturers, two part-time lecturers and, one research assistant were sanctioned. However, the Department continued to function as part of the Department of Philosophy till 1962 when it began to function independently as a full-fledge department of the University of Delhi.
The Department began to admit full-time research scholars from the year 1962 onwards for the degrees of Ph.D. M.Litt. Later, post-graduate Certificate and Diploma courses each of one-year duration in Pali language and Literature were introduced in the years 1967 and 1968 respectively. Likewise post-graduate Certificate and Diploma courses in Tibetan Language and Literature each of one year duration were introduced in 1968 and 1969 respectively. The Department began to bring out its own annual research Journal Buddhist Studies in 1974. The year 1979 was a landmark when a two-year full-time M.A course in Buddhist Studies was introduced. In 1981, M.Litt. was replaced by M.Phil. course. The Department received the status of Department of Special Assistance (DSA) in 1989 from the University Grants Commission. Under this scheme, various facilities in the department were further expanded and now the department hopes to become Centre of Advanced Study at the end of third phase of the DSA Programme. Under the Assistance for Strengthening of Infrastructure for Humanities and Social Sciences (ASIHSS) scheme of the University Grants Commission awarded in the year 2006, the Department has been able to acquire sufficient technical and infrastructural facilities to be able to function as a competitive academic institution striving for excellence.
Apart from within India, students of as many 37 different nationalities have studied and/or done research at the Department of Buddhist Studies. A large number of the alumni of this Department hold positions of eminence in different parts of the world. The Department takes pride in having internationally known academic staff.

Department of Psychology
Psychology at the Master’s level was introduced in Delhi University in 1957 under the Department of Philosophy and Psychology. The Department of Psychology as an independent department was established in 1964 under the headship of Late Prof. H.C. Ganguli.
The Department has two units, one at the North Campus and the other at the South Campus established in 1981. At the North Campus the courses offered are M.A. Psychology and Ph.D while at South Campus the course offered is M.A. in Applied Psychology.
The University of Delhi, in order to cope with the ever-expanding student population, evolved a concept of multi-campus system during the early seventies, resulting in the establishment of South Campus in 1973. One of the objectives for its establishment has been to avoid replication of the existing course and provide necessary diversity in the programmes offered by the University at both the campuses.
Keeping this in view, a number of new inter-disciplinary and applied science courses were started at the South Campus and the Psychology Department started the M.A. Applied Psychology Course at the South Campus. In its endeavour to widen the horizons of the Social Sciences, Applied Psychology Course was designed to train the professional psychologists to serve in hospitals, organizations and counseling centers as well as the advertising and marketing research agencies.
In recognition of its achievements in teaching and research, the University Grants Commission (UGC) identified this Department as Department of Special Assistance (DSA) in 1989. The two thrust areas identified are Cognitive Psychology and Applied Social Psychology. Two phases of the DSA Programme (10 Years) have been completed. Recently in 2015 UGC has recommended the Department for SAP (Special Assistance Programme). Department of Psychology was awarded “Second” position in the event “Awards for good practice” during the Antardhwani-2013 organized by the University of Delhi, Delhi.

Department of Sanskrit
The history of the Department of Sanskrit, DU begins with the history of the University itself. The Department came into existence in 1922 when the University had come into existence. During the first two years of its commencement, the Department ran without postgraduate students. It was only in 1924 that the Department had one student in its M.A. program. Following the practice of the time Mahamahopadhyaya Pandit Lakshidhar Kalla, the senior most of the teachers among the constituent colleges of the University occupied the position of Teacher-in-charge of the Department. As the Department had no faculty members of its own officially recognized some of the senior teachers from the colleges as Readers.
Pandit Lakshmi Dhar Shastri Kalla, the first in-charge of the Department belonged to St. Stephen’s College. Those days the Postgraduate classes of the subject of Sanskrit were held at St. Stephen’s College. Pandit Kalla pioneered the research programs in the Department of Sanskrit. He had come to the department with an illustrious background to his credit. After completing an archeological apprenticeship under Sir John Marshal, he had joined St. Stephen’s College as a lecturer in October 1916. He was an elected member of the Royal Asiatic Society. Apart from being well-versed in several Indian languages, he had the knowledge of Persian, Arabic, Greek, Latin, German, French, Russian and English. His books ‘The Birthplace of Kalidasa’ and ‘The Homeland of Aryans’ got high accreditations from the scholars across the globe. It goes without saying that his contributions in building the Department are unparalleled.
Dr. N.N.Choudhuri of Ramjas College took over as Head of the Department in the year 1949. A full-fledged University Department saw its inception only in the year 1953 when a post of Reader in Sanskrit was created and filled up. Dr. N. N. Choudhuri of Ramjas College, who was already working as the Head of the Department, was appointed in the said position of Reader and was asked to take over as the first regular Head. In 1955 a position of Professor was created. Dr. N. N. Choudhuri was appointed as the first Professor. For a long time the principal focus of the Department was to provide instructions to Undergraduate and Postgraduate courses. Research occupied prime attention only few years later. Dr. Ram Gopal was the first Ph.D. student of the Department in the academic year 1953-54. Even in the late fifties, there used to be only five or six students in its M.A. program and one or two students in Ph.D. program. This situation continued for a number of years. It was only during the early sixties that a marked improvement in the numbers of students was seen. From being a small Department it has now grown to be one of the biggest Departments in the University with more than four hundred postgraduate students, more than one hundred fifty research scholars and more than one hundred fifty teachers in colleges and the University Department.
The Department of Sanskrit enjoys the pride of having some of the stalwarts in the subject as its faculties in the past. Prof. R V Joshi, an internationally acclaimed Sanskritist introduced the modern European research methods to the Department. He is the recipient of Sahitya Academy award and ‘Pravasi Bhartiya Sammana’. The special feature of the creative strength of Prof. Joshi has been his ability to author in Hindi, Sanskrit, French, Spanish and Latin with equal ease. Department of Slavonic & Finno-Ugrian Studies
The Department of Slavonic and Finno-Ugrian Studies is the only Department in India which offers courses in Slavonic languages namely Bulgarian, Croatian, Czech, Polish, Russian and Hungarian from the Finno-Ugrian group of languages. Today’s interconnected world places several challenges before contemporary students in respect of the knowledge and understanding of various global languages and cultures. The Department addresses the immediate need of a large number of students who aspire to travel and be academically prepared for study and employment in global institutions. In this sense, the Department fulfills a largely under-served critical need in the country by directly making students conscious of a rich heritage and making them employable. The courses offered by the Department have a two-fold aim – to empower students to become fluent users of these languages and to acquaint them with the diverse and rich civilizations of the important regions of East – Central Europe and Russia. The approach to teaching adopted by the Department is interdisciplinary and intercultural and we aim to create and emphasize a broad-based outlook that can promote critical and analytical skills of the students and enable them to research both traditional and emerging disciplines. The Department provides an exciting, vibrant, and affable environment to pursue language and literature study by critically exposing students to some of the greatest literary works and scholarly writings produced in East-Central Europe and Russia and encouraging them to analyze them against the backdrop of Western European and Indian cultures. This is further enhanced by developing language skills not merely through text-books and dynamic interaction but also by laying emphasis on other activities like film shows, exhibitions, quiz programmes, celebration of national festivals etc. This provides direct exposure to the languages and cultures of these societies and makes language learning a more meaningful and enjoyable experience with a lasting and long-term impact.

Department of Political Science
The Department was established in 1952, with about 40 postgraduate students. Since then the combined strength of students has exceeded 800.
The teaching and research programme of the Department is based on a comprehensive social science approach that integrates and interrogates sociological, economic, philosophical and cultural dimensions. It encourages a comprehensive study of the field of politics, keeping especially the Indian reality in focus.
The Department of Political Science has been attempting to decentre the notions and practices of the political from its conventional moorings in Eurocentric thought and history. While engaged in moving away in its research agenda from dominantly European models for some time now, the Department has also insisted on learning and undertaking research on western thought and institutions as well, so that the mutual-imbrication of Europe and the non-West, especially India, may be studied more seriously. The relationships of exchange as well as asymmetry between the West and the non-West is of course critical to understanding the current thrust area of our Department, namely that of Globalisation, Democracy and Justice. The need for research on this area is intensified by a number of important global challenges that require more democratic initiatives than are currently available; and these have to be thought in terms of both national and extra-national institutions. Work on the thrust area also benefits from the critical investigations that we conduct in Indian Politics that reveal both new and old forms of (among other things) inequality, justice, discrimination and institutional processes in the larger context of the global.
Our general focus has been supplemented by a growing emphasis on the need to combine theory with ethnographic and archival work. We believe that it is necessary to acquaint ourselves with both Western Political Theory and Indian Political Thought in order to address and open out new empirical material to fresh questions. We are convinced that this will illuminate the unfolding reality of India and other countries\regions and also open out new research agendas for other institutions outside in and India.
The Department is extremely rich in academic potential, comprising a faculty known widely for their research and teaching abilities. It has entered into many collaboration with international institutions and its reputation is being rapidly consolidated outside the country.

Department of Music
Started with a modest batch of twelve students of Hindustani music (both Vocal and Instrumental) and Karnatak music, (only Vocal), the Department was initially situated at the Barracks at the back side of Miranda House. Since then, it has expanded to over four hundred and fifty students at its current location, just at the intersection of the University road and the Mall road, next to the Sir Shankar Lal Concert Hall in the North Campus of the University. During this period, the two main disciplines of music in India, viz, Hindustani and Karnatak music have grown parallel to each other in this Department. With the passage of time, new courses were introduced. In 2013-14, B.A. (Hons.) in Hindustani music – Percussion (Tabla/Pakhawaj) was introduced, followed by M.A. in the same in 2016-17, with its M.Phil. likely to start from 2018- 19 onwards.
The Department has constantly been in the process of enhancing the skills of our students, which leads to an increase in their productivity and output. Keeping these in mind, the Department has always strived to innovate and introduce new courses from time to time. Starting from 2008-09, the Department has introduced special courses, which are job-oriented in keeping with the objectives of the University. Many Diploma and Short-Term Courses have been introduced to fulfil this purpose. A Two-Year Diploma course in Harmonium was started in 2015-16. In 2017-18, the said course and the decades old Sangeet Shiromani Diploma Course of two years’ duration, were restructured from the Annual form into the Semester form, in tune with the main undergraduate and post graduate programmes. The Department has also introduced Short-Term Courses in many genres, namely Tabla, Harmonium, Santoor, Thumri-Dadra, Post-Pallavi compositions in Karnatak music, Veena, Violin and Mridangam, as also Journalism and Sound Engineering: Techniques and Equipment. Thus, at present, the Department conducts B.A. (Hons.), M.A., M.Phil. and Ph.D. programmes in both Hindustani and Karnatak music, Diploma and Short-Term Courses of six months (Advance) and four months (Certificate) duration in the aforesaid and other genres; as also One Year Certificate Course for Foreign nationals in both Hindustani and Karnatak music. With a sanctioned strength of forty one teachers and contribution of noted personalities, artistes and music lovers, the Department has seen many fruitful and prosperous years with rapid development. Equal emphasis is being laid on both theoretical knowledge and practical orientation. Music being a performing art, emphasis is laid upon Oral Tradition within classroom teaching. Noted experts are being invited regularly to share their knowledge with the students. We have the proud privilege of having many reputed artistes, both in the past and at present, in our teaching faculty, who have been a guiding force for our students. No wonder, quite a few of our alumni are performing artistes with Radio and TV grading, while others are placed in eminent positions in various universities, colleges and many government and private organizations. One salient feature of the infrastructure of this Department is its vast and well-equipped library with several wings. It has recently been upgraded into being partly automated. The reading and lending section of the library has around 16,000 books, some of them are very old and rare, and providing valuable source material for regular as well as research-oriented study. The Braille section for the visually challenged has a large collection of 304 Braille books and relevant material transcribed into Talking Books, which is made available to the students in the form of CDs. The audio section has a listening room and lending facilities for over 2,200 cassettes and CDs. Students are encouraged to listen more and more, so as to absorb the finer nuances of this great art form. Apart from this, a separate Computer section with internet connection, printers and e-material facilities has been set up for the benefit of the teachers and research scholars. Two computers, fitted with the JAWS software, are allocated for the differently-abled visual students. While developing the deep-rooted base for Indian classical music, the main aim of this section is to encourage everyone to be acquainted with growth, development and research of music worldwide. The Department has a Museum too, displaying old and rare instruments with their history so as to provide a valuable source of data for researchers. At present, the studio is upgraded with an archival section, where priceless archival music of stalwarts and connoisseurs of music, recorded earlier at the Department, is being made available to students and teachers. The lending and reference sections of the Library, as well as the Museum, is fitted and monitored with CCTV cameras. All of the 16,200 books and 2,300 Ph.D. theses and M.Phil. dissertations have been entered into the ‘Troodon’ e-resource subscribed by DULS, and can be accessed online through the Troodon Library Management Software (version – 4.0) link – http://dulsopac.du.ac.in/catalogue.aspx. The Department is proud to have had on its rolls, students from not just India, but also from abroad, such as the U.S.A., Japan, China, Mauritius, Thailand, Iran, The Netherlands, Kuwait, South Korea and Fiji, as also from neighbouring countries like Nepal, Bangladesh and Sri Lanka. The Department also enjoys the distinct achievement of regularly conducting Short Term courses for the students of the Soka University (Japan) and UCLA (U.S.A.) as the MOU has been signed between them and the University of Delhi. There has also been an exchange programme with the Thummasat University (Thailand). In this sense, the Department can rightly claim to have attained a unique status vis-à-vis expanding the horizons of Indian classical music far outside of our borders. As the saying goes, music has no boundaries! Music being foremost, a practical art, special attention and continuous stress is laid on achieving excellence in performance, not only amongst the students, but also upon theteachers as well. In order to orient them with the fine art and nuances of performance, the Department organizes concerts from time to time, where teachers and students alike are given a platform to display the richness of their talent in the league and company of national-level artistes, who are invited to perform. One of the prime concerts organized every year is the Malhar Utsav to celebrate the spirit of the rainy season with varieties of Malhar ragas. Another notable concert series is the ‘Sadhyayan’, which is a baithak (seated on the floor) organized by the Department from time to time. The Department also provides a regular forum for Lecturecum-demonstrations and workshops, which includes a vast variety of programmes in the vocal, instrumental and percussion fields of both Hindustani Music and Karnatak Music. Supportive teaching and interaction with experts enhance the regular classroom teaching programmes. The Department celebrates the annual festival of Vasantotsav (Saraswati Puja) with zeal and vigour, which is well attended by renowned artistes, scholars and the university community. After seeking the blessings of Ma Saraswati through traditional Puja, including the Pushpanjali, toppers of the annual Inter class competitions, teachers and staff artistes pay homage to Ma Saraswati – the goddess of learning and knowledge – through seasonal ragas, depicting shades, essence and fragrance of the Spring. The Department lays stress that the students, upon entering the field of career-making, should be adept at the theoretical aspect of music as well as the practical side. Keeping this in mind, the Department organizes National/International level seminars under the Special Assistance Programme of the U.G.C., and sometimes in collaborations with the Indian Council for Cultural Relations (I.C.C.R.) or the Sangeet Natak Akademi, as the case may be. In the last five years, the Department has organized two International Seminars, one of which was organized in collaboration with the ICCR, on 27-28 February 2018, titled – “Indian Classical Music: Teaching and Performing Abroad” at the Conference Centre, University of Delhi. It was attended by experts from the USA, The Netherlands, Mauritius, Singapore, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh and Nepal. The Department is indeed privileged to have had over the years, some illustrious names in the field of music as panellists for the seminars, such as Padma Bhushan recipients – Prof. S.K. Saxena, Pt. Debu Chaudhuri, Vidushi Shanno Khurana, Vidushi Kapila Vatsyayan, Pt. Birju Maharaj; Sangeet Natak Akademi award winners such as Pt. L.K. Pandit, Vidwan T.R. Subramanyam, Vidushi Leela Omchery, Vidushi Krishna Bisht, Pt. Vidyadhar Vyas, Pt. Bhajan Sopori and many others. They have shared with us all, the wealth of their knowledge and experiences, which have greatly benefitted one and all. The Department also brings out its research journal – Vageeshwari. Started in 1986, the journal has completed a glorious journey of 31 long and musically enriching years. The journal is a treasure house of knowledge, which encourages scholastic outpouring of information and innovative ideas in the field of research in music. It publishes proceedings of the Departmental seminars, as also research papers and articles contributed by eminent musicologists, teachers and research scholars both from the Department and other institutes in India. Vageeshwari is an ISSN numbered journal (0975-7872) and has been uploaded on the Journal’s portal of the UGC in 2017. Along with workshops and Lecture-cum-demonstrations, the Department started a new series of audio-visual shows and film shows. The Department has conducted Audio-video shows on leading personalities like Pt. D.V. Paluskar, Ustad Allauddin Khan, Vidushi M.S. Subbulakshmi and Ustad Ahmad Jan Thirakwa, which were presented by the concerned subject experts. A film on the life and work of Ghazal Queen – Begum Akhtar, and one on Gwalior gharana, were shown in the Department. In the month of March 2018, a four day workshop on the making, repairing and maintenance of musical instruments, viz. Tabla, Sitar, Tanpura and Mridangam, was organized in collaboration with the Sangeet Natak Akademi, New Delhi. This is a unique feat in the history of music in the the university system, as such a set of workshops on four different instruments, was organized for the first time ever. Studying in the Department of Music, University of Delhi, is a truly different experience for the students. This is because on one hand, the students pursue their concurrent courses, while on the other hand, they also learn the traditional art forms of Indian classical music from a unique institute, which is a mixture of an age-old education system, i.e. the Guru-shishya parampara and institutionalized modern education system. The atmosphere of teaching-learning is indeed hat of an extended family
