The Institute of Social Science Education and Research (PU-ISSER), Panjab University, Chandigarh offers a four-year B.A./B.A. (Hons.)/B.A. (Hons. with Research) in Social Sciences under the NEP 2020 framework. The programme is designed to provide students with an interdisciplinary understanding of social sciences along with strong analytical, research and communication skills.
Course Highlights
The B.A. Social Sciences programme is a 4-year, 8-semester course with 100 seats. Students can choose a Major subject from disciplines such as Geography, History, Economics, Political Science, Psychology, Public Administration and Sociology. Students can also opt for a Minor discipline to develop broader knowledge across social sciences.
The course follows the Honours School Framework and provides opportunities for interdisciplinary learning, special lectures, tutorials and research-oriented activities.

Eligibility
Admission is based on the merit of Class 12, calculated on the basis of the best five subjects from the total subjects studied.
The listed course fee was ₹16,355 for 2023–24, while the current selected-candidate admission notice specifies the applicable admission fee separately.
Admission Fee 2027
According to the selected candidates’ notice, candidates are required to deposit ₹17,515 through the Panjab University online fee portal. In addition, ₹1,000 Society Fund is required to be deposited separately.
For SC students of Punjab with annual family income up to ₹2.5 lakh, the applicable fee mentioned in the notice is ₹6,730. Eligible SC students are also required to apply for the scholarship through the Dr. B.R. Ambedkar Portal of the Punjab Government.
The admission fee must be deposited by the deadline mentioned in the admission notice, and candidates are required to submit the fee receipt and other documents to PU-ISSER.
Attendance Requirement
Students must maintain 75% attendance in lectures, tutorials, seminars and practicals in each paper. The admission of students who attend less than 33% of the total lectures during the first 10 working days may be cancelled.
